Left leg. Right leg. Sciatica (aka leg pain) will affect either leg
(and sometimes both). Groton chiropractic care at Shoreline Medical Services/ Hutter Chiropractic Office
helps reduce leg pain and addresses
the spinal cause of the sciatica at the same time. Shoreline Medical Services/ Hutter Chiropractic Office guides
Groton leg pain and back pain patients to pain relief with chiropractic care.
SCIATIC LEG PAIN: Right Leg or Left Leg
You have heard of right-handed people and left-handed
people, right? Of course, you have! Did you know that the right
leg grows longer in left-handed people and the left leg grows longer in
right-handed people? Not all the time, but
research has it documented in pretty high percentages.
Bearing this in mind, it’s not surprising that there are more people with longer left legs (53%) than right
legs (39%). Incredibly, only 8% of people have equal
leg lengths. (1) What role does that play in
which leg will have sciatica? Discs will
bulge into the concavity of the curve owing to a variety
of issues like uneven stresses on the anulus of the disc. The
concavity of the spinal curve is on the long leg side. A right-handed person
with a long left leg will likely experience left leg pain. Another curious point: hip pain often arises
on the long leg side, too: 88.9% long leg versus 11.1% short leg.
Sciatica is the same: 78.5% occurs on the long
leg side vs 21.5% on the short leg side. (2,3) Your
Groton chiropractor can measure a short leg pretty
easily by examining 3 things: iliac
crest, the verticality of the spine, and levelness of the posterosuperior iliac
spine dimples. Researchers wrote that there is a strong
relationship between visual and xray measurements. (4) Trust your Groton
chiropractor to see a short leg…and take care of any related
disc herniation causes of pain!
DISC HERNIATION RE-ABSORPTION WITH NON-SURGICAL CARE
A new study reported on 75 cases of ruptured
lumbar disc herniation. 46 of the 75 cases experienced
leg pain radiculopathy: 46 cases on the left and 29 on
the right. (Makes sense now, right?)
At 5 years follow-up after non-surgical treatment, a
“reabsorption” phenomenon was seen. The excellent and good rate of disc reabsorption
was 73.24%. (5) Shoreline Medical Services/ Hutter Chiropractic Office provides relieving
non-surgical care of Groton leg pain and back pain.
RELIEF FOR Groton LEG PAIN and BACK PAIN
And then remember the recent paper about
the benefits of chiropractic maintenance care: Maintenance care reduces
the number of days of pain for acute back pain
episodes and raises the length of pain-free periods
between recurrent back pain episodes of persistent back pain. (6) Shoreline Medical Services/ Hutter Chiropractic Office
is ready for those back pain and leg pain patients looking
for fewer days with back and leg
pain and those who would like to live life with longer periods without leg and back pain.
